986,404. Securing gear pinions on shafts. K. REICH. March 9, 1964 [March 12, 1963], No. 9831/64. Heading F2U. A small diameter gear pinion 4 is secured on a shaft 2 with a reduced end portion 3 by a ring 7 provided with a set of internal teeth 7<SP>1</SP> meshing with the pinion teeth 41, the ring being non-rotatably secured to the shaft portion 2. As shown this is effected by shrinking the ring on the shaft, but the ring may have internal projections engaging longitudinal grooves in the surface of the shaft, which grooves may correspond in number and shape to the spaces between the pinion teeth 4<SP>1</SP> and form an axial continuation thereof, Figs. 2 and 5 (not shown). The pinion 4 may be secured axially on the shaft end 3 by a circlip 6.
