An apparatus for printing on gloves comprises a plurality of hand elements 21 for supporting gloves, a printing mechanism 40 located at a printing station and having a printing plate 42 on a pneumatically reciprocable head 41, and a glove-sensing device 51, 53, the arrangement being such that under the control of the sensing device the head moves forwardly to print on a glove indexed at said station, the portion 44 of the respective hand element being used as an impression surface. Each hand element includes four finger members 14 and two thumb members 15 so as to accommodate left-hand or right-hand gloves. Inking apparatus.-The printing plate 42 is inked by a pair of rollers 46<SP>1</SP> carried by an arm 47 rotatably mounted on a shaft 48. The ink is supplied by a roller 49 and is distributed on a surface 50 prior to its application to the type. Tripping.-If right hand gloves are to be printed the arm 51 of the sensing device closes a circuit by contacting the left-hand thumb member at a sensing station and initiating a printing step when the respective hand element reaches the printing station. If there is no glove present the arm 53 completes a circuit through a finger member 14 and the printing step does not take place.
