Abstract
986,036. Tunnel diodes. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. April 9, 1963 [April 9, l962], No. 14103/63. Heading H1K. A housing for a tunnel diode is provided by an insulating block containing two mutually parallel bores interconnected by a third smaller parallel bore defined by two part-cylindrical surfaces with a tunnel diode element therebetween. In the embodiment a tunnel diode element 7 is mounted in the central bore of the ceramic block 1 and ohmically connected with conductive coatings 1a and 1b or soldered in position. The PN junction region is then etched off until the required area is reached during which time the characteristics of the element are continuously measured. The small bore may be sealed with a drop of cast resin and the remaining bores with silicon rubber.
