One or more semi-conductor devices, e.g. diode rectifiers 6 are mounted on the base of a recess formed in a copper plate 5 attached to the end plate 7 of an alternator. A ceramic closure member 9 rests on a shoulder formed in the wall of the recess and is sealed thereto and to leads 8 extending through it by rings of solder 10.
