Abstract

985,023. Scavenging vessels. DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Jan. 25, 1962 [Jan. 26, 1961], No. 3073/61. Heading B7A. A means for recovering oil from oil-polluted liquid comprises a floating vessel 11 (having a single hull or as shown of the catamaran type having hulls 12, 13 connected by a platform 14) has at least one pump 18 (driven by engine 16) for drawing in the liquid surrounding the vessel through a collecting scoop or scoops, one for each pump (e.g. scoop 24, orifice 20 and intake duct 22) and discharging it through duct 26 to a marine oily water separator 29 having a water outlet duct 30 discharging overboard and an oil outlet duct 31. The duct 31 leads to a centrifugal separator 32 having a water outlet duct 33 discharging overboard and an oil outlet duct 34 leading to storage tank 35. The propulsion unit 15 and the engines 16 may be supplied with oil from tank 35.
