Abstract

984,580. Automatic exchanges. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 12, 1962 [Sept. 15, 1961], No. 34837/62. Heading H4K. In a system in which a subscriber's set is provided with a keysender for sending audio frequencies indicative of a wanted subscriber's number, the microphone is kept disconneected until a relay is operated by a signal from the exchange, which signal is sent only when all the digits have been received. Closure of the hookswitch H connects up keysender 3 and connects winding R1 of relay R in place of the " tone ringer " 10. When all the digits have been received at the exchange, the receiver 2 reverts a " ringing signal " which brings up relay R over its winding R1. This disconnects keysender 3, connects up the microphone 5 and receiver 7 and completes a holding circuit for R through winding R2. A capacitative shunt across r may be provided to permit passage of " dialling " tone. A circuit which has a high impedance only when the supply to point 14 is removed may be connected in series with capacitor 13 to prevent dissipation of speech signals in signal receiver 9. This circuit may comprise a saturable reactor, a threshold circuit or a diode.
