Abstract

The signal bell (2) of this telephone receiver is permanently connected accross the telephone line (L1, L2) in series with a capacitor and a non-inductive resistor. It rings upon receipt of normal call signals from the exchange. When the handset is lifted, the cradle switch places a voltage detector across the bell. This comprises two Zener diodes (7) that form a short-circuit at signalling voltages. The cradle switch also puts the receiver across the line so that speech signals may be received. When calls are originated, the Zener diodes shunt the local bell. Electronic signalling may therefore be used with non-operation of the local bell in full compliance with P.T.T. regulations.
