984,455. Postal franking machines; selective printing. SOC. DES MACHINES HAVAS. Oct. 13, 1961 [Oct. 22, 19601, No. 36816/61. Headings B6D and B6F. In a franking machine having a rotating head for impression in which the value-printing rollers 13 7 , 14 7 , 15 7 can be set in selected position by the rotation of a first set of concentric spindles 13 2 , 14 2 , 15 2 by knobs 13 1 , 14 1 , 15 1 and in which the knobs also pre-set a value-totalizing apparatus by rotation of a second set of concentric spindles 23 1 , 24 1 , 251 having totalizer-setting cams 23 2 , 24 2 , 25 2 , the spindles of the second set are aligned with those of the first and are connected each to each by a disc 13 3 on the end of each first spindle, a gear 13 5 on the end of each second spindle and an axially-extending bar 13 4 connecting each disc to its gear. Where necessary, the bars 13 4 pass through arcuate slots in the gears. The value-printing rollers are set from gears 13 5 through gears 13 60 and concentric shafts 13 6 . The head includes knobs 11 1 , 12 1 , which set date-printing rollers 21, 22 through a third set of concentric spindles concentric with the first set. Setting of the totalizer causes the projection of a rod 8 against a spring 8 4 so that the projecting end 81 actuates an impression counter 4 on each revolution. If, however, the set franking value is zero, the rod is not projected and that impression is not counted. On freeing a stop, the head can be rotated by a handle for one revolution only.
