Abstract

984,327. Valves. CHICAGO PNEUMATIC TOOL CO. June 7, 1963 [July 3, 1962], No. 22779/63. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] A compressor inlet valve consists of a circular seat 17, Fig. 6, and a complementary keeper 18 held in contact therewith by a bolt 19, the valve being secured in a lateral opening 12 of the compressor cylinder by a ported sleeve 26 and a plate 33. The keeper 18, Fig. 2, is formed with an annular recess 38 which communicates with the compressor cylinder via arcuate ports 39. The seat is provided with inner and outer concentric channels 43, 42, Fig. 3, which open to the outer face of the seat through arcuate ports 45. Areas 35 define seats for a pair of stainless steel ring elements 48, 49, Fig. 4, which are loaded by a number, three as shown, of springs 51, each spring comprising dished rings 53 stacked in reverse relationship upon a guide pin 54. Each of the latter is press-fitted into holes 55 in the keeper and slidable in holes 57 in the seat; the holes 55 are open to the inner face of the keeper to facilitate removal of the pins 54. The spring rings 53 define inner and outer air pockets 59, 61 which cushion the valve movements. The compressor is fitted with a discharge valve 15<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, which diners from the inlet. valve in that the bolt 19<SP>1</SP> is reversed.
