In a fishing vessel having a ramp 1 extending from a working deck 2 to the water line, the ramp being provided with a flap 7 pivotable about a horizontal axis 6 from a collapsed position in alignment with the ramp surface to a raised position wherein the mouth of the ramp into the working deck is blocked, the recess 4 which accommodates the flap when in collapsed position is so formed that a solid wall (5 or 9 in Fig. 1, 11 in Fig. 2) of the recess, together with the flap when in raised position, form a continuous wall of greater height than the length of the flap measured at right angles to the pivot axis 6. In Fig. 2 the flap surface 10 facing the sea is concave, and the flap is formed with passages 13 and/or 14 to break up the water flow of waves striking the lowered flap.
