Abstract

983,857. Cams. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. June 23, 1961 [June 23, 1960], No. 22880/61. Heading F2K. [Also in Division F1] In a drive mechanism for a fuel injection pump having a rotating and reciproeating plunger 17, the plunger carries a spring loaded face cam 25 which contacts rollers 26 fixed in the pump casing. A second set of rollers 28 is mounted in the casing and these contact a second spring - loaded face cam 27 mounted on the driving shaft 21. The cams are mounted out of phase so that the torque load on the drive shaft due to the cams is substantially balanced. The second cam arrangement may consist of radially mounted spring-loaded balls engaging a cylindrical cam having an undulating cam surface on its periphery. The pump is driven by a belt 24 engaging toothed pulleys 22, 23, the former being mounted on the engine distributer drive.
