983,542. Stoves and fireplaces. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 5, 1961 [May 9, 1960], No. 16362/61. Heading F4W. [Also in Division H2] An oven includes an additional heating element which is employed together with the cooking heating elements, in a cleaning operation in which the oven is raised to a temperature-750‹ to 950‹ F.-high enough to decompose food soil, the additional element being located adjacent the door to compensate heat losses therethrough and thereby prevent the condensation of vapour in its neighbourhood. The oven cavity 12 is formed by a metal liner 16 surrounded by fibre glass insulation 26, and has plug-in electrical baking and broiling elements 22 and 21 (see Division H2), the former provided with a reflector 23, and an additional element 50 mounted around the door opening, outside the liner, with a reflector 51 to direct its heat in the direction of the door. The door 13 is hinged at its lower edge, and includes thermal insulation 31 held between front panel 30 and aluminium sheet 35, itself separated from a second aluminium sheet 36 by the air gap 34. The door is sealed, when shut, by gaskets 45 of silicone rubber, and fibre glass 47 mounted round the ends of the breaker frame. Fumes and smoke escape from the oven via smoke eliminator 40 and exhaust duct 41, and the raised portion 38 on the oven liner prevents the escape of spilt liquids.
