Abstract

983,167. Rotary I.C. engines. NSU MOTORENWERKE A.G., and WANKEL G.m.b.H. April 19, 1962 [April 29, 1961], No. 15213/62. Heading FlF. In a rotary internal combustion engine, fuel is metered into a chamber 14 connected by passages to the inner surface of the casing 1, so that when a piston apex 6 lies between these points, the pressure difference between chambers 9 and 8 produces a flow through the passages, and the fuel is discharged at 16 through a nozzle 17. The position of the chamber 14 shown is preferable where a high atomizing pressure is required, for diesel oil, since the chamber 9 is in the early stages of expansion and the chamber 8 is at the end of the induction stroke. If a lower atomizing pressure is sufficient, the fuel chamber may be located at 14<SP>1</SP> in the peripheral wall of the casing or at 18 in an end wall, chambers 9<SP>1</SP> and 8<SP>1</SP> being in the compression and induction phases respectively.
