[Also in Division H5] A package irradiating plant comprises an irradiating cell and a railway comprising a series of tracks arranged parallel to one another, a movable transfer member to which a short section of track is attached, and means to move the transfer member so that the short section of track is aligned first with one track and then with another. As shown, Fig. 2, objects 18 are suspended from trolleys on one of a series of rails 5-8 and are moved by pushrods or chains past an irradiation cell 3. Short sections of rails 13 are mounted on a member 14 movable along a rail 16 enabling the object 18 to be moved from one rail to another. In a modification, Fig. 4, the short rails are mounted on a block 8<SP>1</SP> suspended from tension rods 9<SP>1</SP>-12<SP>1</SP> and movable in an arcuate path by means of two rods 14<SP>1</SP>. The tension rods are so arranged that during the arcuate movement the ends of the short rails nearest the long rails are tilted upwards. To ensure correct positioning of the trolleys on the tracks, dimples or grooves may be formed in the tracks to engage the trolley wheels. Specifications 927,364 and 930,326 are referred to.
