Abstract

The invention comprises sugar derivatives <FORM:0982078/C2/1> where X is the residue of a fatty acid containing at least 10 carbon atoms; Z is the radicle of a di- or tri-saccharide; R is H or C1- 6 alkyl; m is 1-50; and n is 1-8 when Z is a di-saccharide radicle and 1-12 when Z is a tri-saccharide radicle. They are obtained by reacting the corresponding sugar glycol ethers with a fatty acid ester of a C1- 6 alkanol. Catalysts and solvents (both listed) are preferably present. Sacchorose octuhexa- and tetra-propylene glycol ethers are the specified starting materials.
