Abstract
981,854. Tamping machines. H. G. SCHAPERCLAUS. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 19, 1962; Sept. 18, 1963], No. 39722/63. Heading E1G. A tamping machine having a vibrating plate 41 driven by a motor 45 through out-of-balance systems 42, 43 is automatically moved forward by the engagement of a motor driven roller 55, or the like, with a long guiding element 56 such as a rope or a chain The motor 45 is carried by two angles 49, 50 supported from the baseplate 41 through antivibration mountings 51. The sprocket 55 engaging the chain 56 is driven from the motor unit 45 through a removing gear, pulley 52, belt or chain 53, and transmission gear 54. The reversing gear is operated by a lever 63 actuated by a rod 32 having sleeves 60, 61 contacting stops 65 attached to the chain 56. The two vibrations 42, 43 are coupled by a toothed belt 44 and driven in the same direction with 180 degrees phase displacement. The rotation of the vibrations may be reversible. In another embodiment, a rope is wrapped several turns round a drum for movement and only a single vibrator is used.
