981,502. Abrading lenses. D. O. ELLIOTT. April 18, 1962, No. 15027/62. Heading B3D. [Also in Division G2] A contact lens is formed from a moulded lens blank with a selected inner concave lens surface and a surrounding flange, by filling the concavity of the blank with filling material 20 which sets in a rigid form, mounting it on a support 22, shaping the convex surface as desired and cutting the flange away from the central lens element by means of a cutting tool 36. A slit 46 (Fig. 5) is then cut in the blank which facilitates removal of the flange leaving the lens which is then polished and the edge bevelled.
