980,977. Indicating brake lining wear. M. BARTON. Sept. 25, 1963 [Sept. 25, 1962], No. 36335/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading F2E. Means for indicating visually wear in the brake linings of a motor vehicle comprises a contact in the lining of a brake element of each wheel which is below the surface of the lining and is in an electrical circuit including a bulb and battery. Each contact is connected through a separate bulb or a bulb common to each contact to one terminal of the battery, the other terminal of which is connected to the vehicle chassis. A rotary switching device for connecting the battery across each bulb in turn may be provided to test the bulbs. The contacts may be provided in brake shoes or brake pads. An additional bulb may be provided which is lit by the battery when a switch is closed by the brake pedal to give an indication when brake pedal adustment is required.
