Abstract
980,916. Brakes. GIRLING Ltd. May 25, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 19672/60. Heading F2F. In an hydraulic system such as for a vehicle braking system a reservoir 12 for hydraulic fluid is provided with a closure cap or cover 14 and has associated therewith a flexible sac or membrane 10 which, when the reservoir contains fluid, forms a movable wall between the fluid and the atmosphere and remains in contact with the fluid as the volume of fluid in the reservoir changes, the sac or membrane including at least one predetermined fold line or corrugation facilitating its change of shape as the volume of fluid changes. As shown, a thinwalled bellows 10 of moulded silicone rubber has an annular, stepped flange 11, which may be integral with or separately made from the bellows, clamped between the upper end of the reservoir and the screwed-on cap 14, the latter being formed with breather holes 15.
