Abstract

A fertilizer composition consists essentially of a nutrient fertilizer and at least 0.5% by weight of the fertilizer, of an organic non-ionic wetting agent. The nutrient component may comprise salts or mixtures of salts, providing sources of nitrogen, sulphur, phosphorus, boron, magnesium, calcium, cobalt, potassium, sodium and iron. The wetting agent may be a compound of formula R-A-(CH2CH2O)x-CH2CH2OH where R is a hydrocarbon group having 8-18 carbon atoms, or an aralkyl group incorporating such a hydrocarbon chain, A is oxygen, sulphur, or an amino, amido, carboxylic ester or thiocarboxylic ester group, and x is 8-20. Other polyoxyalkylene compounds are specified. The compositions are applied to soil or seeds as an aqueous solution or as a powder containing an extender such as peat or kieselguhr.
