An end piece to protect the threaded end of a tube as it is bent has an internal screw thread engageable with the thread on the tube and an internal core or projection adapted to enter the end of the tube. A threaded end 2 of a tube 1 to be bent is protected by an end piece 7 having an internally threaded cavity 8 and an internal coaxial core 9, the end piece being screwed on to the tube end 2 with the core 9 entering the tube. The core may be cylindrical or conical. A former for bending the tube 1, with the end piece 7 thereon, between abutments or rollers 5, 6 is grooved at 12 to engage the tube and formed with a clearance at 15 to accommodate the end piece.
