Abstract
A thermoplastic composition is produced by blending a hydrocarbon was with a high molecular weight polyolefin having an intrinsic viscosity of not less than 3 and not more than 17 and optionally an elastomeric olefinic interpolymer and mixing the resulting blend with an olefin polymer with a melt index between 0.01 and 100 grams/10 minutes, said blend containing optionally an antioxidant and having a melt index equal to or not differing from that of said olefin polymer by a factor of more than 10. Examples of the high molecular polyolefin having an intrinsic viscosity of 3-17 are polyethylenes and ethylene propylene copolymers. Examples of the olefin polymer with a melt index between 0.01 and 100 grams/10 minutes are polyethylenes and ethylene copolymers containing in not more than 10% by weight of an a -olefin containing 3-10 carbon atoms. The hydrocarbon wax should have a melting point greater than 130 DEG F. Suitable antioxidants are 2, 3-di-(4-hydroxyphenyl) - propane and 2,6 - di - t. - butyl - 4 - methylphenol and 4, 41-thio-di-(3-methyl-6-t.-butyl phenols. Suitable elastomeric olefinic interpolymers are ethylene-propylene copolymers containing 25-75% by weight ethylene, or ethylene-propylene-isoprene terpolymers containing less than 10% by weight isoprene.
