Abstract
A steel-making plant comprises a track interconnecting one or more blowing stations, where equipment such as lances with lifting mechanism, hoods, cooling and cleaning means for converter waste gases are provided, with one or more rest stations where maintenance operations such as converter relining are carried out, such that the or each blowing station is connected with at least one rest station, and one or more converters each removably mounted on a wheeled carriage for movement on the track between at least one blowing station and at least one rest station. For example, two converters 1 (see Fig. 3) may have access to the same blowing station 16 located between two rest stations 20 connected by a track 13. Fig. 4 shows two blowing stations 16 and three rest stations 20, 23 arranged alternately along the <PICT:0979786/C6-C7/1> <PICT:0979786/C6-C7/2> <PICT:0979786/C6-C7/3> track 13. As shown, the above track-connected stations may be located between charging and teeming bays 14 and 15, and additional tracks 19, 22 may extend from one or more of the stations to one or more supplementary rest stations 21 in the teeming bay 15. Turntables 18 may be provided at each junction of the two tracks. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 5, the blowing stations 16 and rest stations, constituted by pouring stations 28, 29 located adjacent the teeming bay 15 and charging stations 30, 31 in the charging bay 14, may be located at the ends of tracks 24, 25, 26 which meet at a common turntable junction 27, the additional track 32 extending from one pouring station 28 into the teeming bay to provide for the replacement of a converter.
