Abstract

979, 740. Thermographic printing. W. ZINDLER, [trading as LUMOPRINT ZINDLER KOMM.- GES.]. Jan. 7, 1963 [Jan. 27, 1962] ,No. 631/63. Heading G2C. A method of reproducing matter on copy material by means of radiation utilizes a coating on the copy material that melts at high temperature, the coating being selectively melted due to radiation when superimposed on an original to be copied, the melted coating being fixed by the application of colouring matter to produce a contact between the melted and unmelted portions. As shown a coated copy sheet is placed on a table 23 of a copying apparatus and an original is superimposed thereon, the two sheets then being fed through a slot 24 to a rotating cylinder. The cylinder 19 carries clamping hooks 43 which, upon engagement with a circumferential member 29, close to the 43<1> position to grip the two sheets. The two sheets are fed past infra-red radiators 42 in a chamber 38 and then past a roller 65 which applies colouring matter from a trough 63 to the melted areas of the copy sheet. Alternatively, powder 70 Fig. 4 (not shown) is supplied from a hopper 71 by a roller 69 rotating at high speed. The sheets are removed from the cylinder 19 by the hooks moving to the 43" position Fig. 3, (not shown) and are directed out of a slot 23. The copy sheet may be coated with wax e.g., paraffin wax ceris in wax or resins such as colophony, hydrated colophony, colophony ester and polyterfene. Other coatings may be polyamides, polymers of acrylic acids, ethyl, acrylate, butyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, polystyrene, and polytetrafluorethylene. In a modification the pigment and coating may be applied simultaneously to the support sheet after heating.
