Abstract
979,504. Counters. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. Nov.29, 1961 [Dec, 19, 1960] ,No.43614/60. Heading G4D. Readings of a gas meter can be obtained at a remote position by applying a series of electric pulses to the meter so as to set it to a zero or other predetermined position. The motor drives a counter 17 through a stuffing box, Fig. 1, or a magnetic coupling, the drive shaft 24 oscillating a spring-influenced lever 16 to advance the lowest order numeral wheel 10a of a counter. When the meter is read pulses are fed to magnet 42 to oscillate the arm 16 until a bar 54 enters slots 52 of all the numeral wheels, so opening contacts 44, 46. The number of pulses required is the complement of the reading. As an alternative the highest numeral wheel may have more than one slot 52 to reduce the number of pulses required. Modification, Fig. 4. The drive shaft 24 oscillates lever 80 to remove detent 84 at the same time as pin 30 advances tooth 10t At reading, solenoid 42 oscillates lever 16 which therefore oscillates lever 80 a greater distance whereby the tail 88 of lever 80 steps the numeral wheel backwards. The pulses are registered on a counter which prints the result.
