978,808. Valves. W. M. MARTIN. May 9, 1962, No. 19312/63. Divided out of 978,806. Heading F2V. [Also in Division B8] Valves suitable for controlling the flow of solids-containing fluid foodstuffs such as vegetable soup and beef stew without undue friction or attrition of the solid components, comprise a polished metal ball 311, Fig. 8, having a through-passage 312 and a control 313 which is rotated to turn the ball 90 degrees between open and closed positions. The ball floats between two polytetrafluoroethylene valve seats 316 against which synthetic rubber 0-rings 317 bear. The valve shown in Fig. 14 is fitted with clamps 520, 521, and 530 facilitating dismantling and re-assembly of the valve components, and the outer ends of the housing extensions 539 against the valve seats are flared for ease of assembly. Fig. 19 depicts a three-way valve of similar constructions. Specification 978,807 also is referred to.
