Abstract

978,768. Vacuum filling machines. RECKITT & SONS Ltd. Aug. 21, 1963, No. 33187/63. Heading B8C. Powder from a tubular discharge 2 passes through a tube 4 within a bore 5 into a container when a valve 8 is unseated from the top of the tube 4 by reduced air pressure which acts through a conduit 12 and raises a diaphragm 7, which carries the valve 8, against the action of a spring 11. A less reduced air pressure also acts through conduit 15 to facilitate the flow of powder into the container and, after filling, air is blown through conduit 16 to sweep away through conduit 15 any surplus powder which may remain in bore 5. If the container to be filled is deformable it is supported within a bell and a duct leads from the bore 5 or 14 to the bell externally of the container so that reduced air pressure is applied to both sides of it during filling. Specification 978,768 is referred to.
