Abstract
978,729. Transformers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 19, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962], No. 45812/62. Heading H1T. A current transformer (for 400KV working, or more) has a primary conductor 1 surrounded by an insulating bushing 2 and a secondary 3 around the bushing, all enclosed in a conducting sheath 6 connected to the primary. The bushing 2 consists of layers of paper or " Melinex " (Registered Trade Mark), interleaved with metal foils 11, wound around the conductor 1, and in the case of paper layers continuously dried during the winding process. The tank 6 may be filled with oil or SF6 respectively according to whether paper or Melinex is used, or the foils 11 may be cast in a solid resin bushing and the whole space 12 filled with a mass of resin, the tank 6 being formed by a metal coating on this mass. The secondary leads 5 are carried in a tube 4 connected to the earthed plate 9 which supports the porcelain insulator 7, and insulating tubes 13 supporting more stress-controlling metal foils may be connected to cones 14, also carrying foils to increase the oil creep path. The shape of the tank 6 and the secondary windings may be such as to reduce electrical stresses, and the bushing may carry for example 75 foils having a 0.05 inch separation.
