Abstract
978,357. Capacitors. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Dec. 12, 1962 [Dec. 22, 1961], No. 46052/61. Heading H1M. A cylindrical capacitor is encased by inserting the capacitor element 1 into a tube of heatshrinkable plastic material 5, placing sealing masses 6 in the ends of the tube and then applying heat so as to shrink the tube 5 into engagement with the sealing masses 6. The tube may be made from plasticized polyvinyl chloride coated on its inner surface with vinylidene chloride, or treated with caustic soda, and the sealing masses may be cold or thermosetting synthetic resins. The capacitor element will normally be of the spirally-wound type. Embodiments of the invention are described wherein the capacitor element is enclosed in a stretched inner tube before it is encased in a second outer tube according to the invention (Fig. 6, not shown), and also wherein the capacitor element is provided with metal end caps before being encased (Fig. 2, not shown).
