Abstract

978,122. Gravity-separation apparatus. H. A. J. SILLEY, and D. G. UNTHANK. March 30, 1961 [April 11, 1960], No. 12884/60. Heading B1D. Oily water introduced at 7, Fig. 1, is directed circumferentially at 8 and is constrained to double back on itself to penetrate a pyramidal sheet 14 by "cheese-grater" perforations 19, Fig. 3 which are provided in the sheet and which are directed outwardly and in the liquidflow direction. The mixture rises through similar inwardly- and upwardly-directed perforations 18, Fig. 5, in a pyramidal sheet 15, and then flows downwardly. Oil collects at 39 and exits at 6. Water flows between radial vanes 28, is guided by spiral elements 31 having "cheesegrater" perforations upwards between tubes 25 and 30, passes through ports 26 in tube 25, and exits through an aperture leading to outlet 9. Residual oil rises through a pipe 36.
