Abstract

978, 092. Photosensitive materials. KODAK Ltd. Feb. 2, 1961 [Feb. 5, 1960], No. 3998/61. Heading G2C. A light-sensitive composition comprises a 9- azido-acridine or an azide of formula; Ar-N3, Ar-CON3 Ar-CH=CH-CON3 and wherein Ar is aryl or substituted aryl, Y is nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur and Q represents the atoms to complete a 5 or 6 membered unsaturated ring system and a coupler of formula where X is oxygen, sulphur, selenium, methylene or imino and in the which the benzene rings may be substituted or contain a fused-on benzene ring. This composition is preferably disordered or dispersed in a polymeric binder and coated on a support, image-wise exposed to ultra-violet radiation to produce a coloured image which may be stabilized either by heating to between 75‹ and 150‹C. or by washing the image in warm water or dilute acid solution. A salt of a primary, secondary, tertiary or quaternised amine, especially the hydrochloride. Sulphate or nitrate salts, may be added as activators to the aride compositions. Specified arides are 2-azido-benzoxale and -benzimidazole, 5-azidotetrazole [a] phthalizine, 4-azido-6-methyl-1, 3, 3a, 7-tetrazaindene; 2, 4-diazido-6-methylpyrinidine 2, 4, 6-triazido-s -triazine, 4, 4<1>-diazidodiphenyl sulphide and benzoyl azide. Specified couplers are phenothiazine, acridien, benzo[a]phenothiazine and benzo[b]phenoxazine. The image may be intensified by heating between 60 and 70‹C.
