Abstract

978,029. Gyroscopic apparatus. BENDIX CORPORATION. April 8, 1963 [April 9, 1962; April 20, 1962], No. 13916/63. Heading G1C. [Also in Division G3] A gas spun rate gyro comprises a rotor housing 304, Fig. 7, supported in a sealed casing 302 by flexible members 410 and turning about an axis formed by a torque tube gas inlet 314 to the casing and a housing gas outlet 312 supported in a gas bearing 318. Rotation of the housing is damped by devices 135, 334 each comprising a cup shaped member 337 closed by a diaphragm 139 and having a restricted connection 141 with the casing, the diaphragms being connected to housing by flexible members 143, 145. Gas in the casing is supplied to the housing by two jets (not shown) to spin the rotor 106, Fig. 10. Gas is also supplied through ports 182, 184 so that the rotor is fully supported by gas in the housing. Rotation of the housing varies the gas supply to two jets of a control system (see Division G3). Specification 915, 918 is referred to.
