Abstract
978,010. Cutting by fusion. HANCOCK & CO. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Oct. 22, 1963 [Oct. 30, 1962], No. 40889/62. Heading B3V. A magnetic tracing device, particularly for an oxygen jet cutting machine, has a magnetic tracing roller 21 energized by a permanent magnet 16 and having a non-magnetic extension 22, the roller being movable axially so that either the magnetic or the non-magnetic portion will engage the template. This permits a smooth run-in under manual control with the non-magnetic portion adjacent the template. One or more permanent magnets 16 are clamped in a ferromagnetic body 11 by a ferromagnetic ring 13, aluminium piece 12, and ferromagnetic centre-piece 15. The roller 21 is mounted on a spindle 19 driven through gearing 23-26 by a flange coupling 28 connected to a motor. The surface of roller 21 is preferably knurled or milled and the extension 22 may be a retaining nut for the roller or a sleeve retained by a separate nut.
