In a pressure vessel and a closure 1 therefor having complementary cam means such as lugs 9 or screw-threading so that relative rotation of the vessel and closure causes the engaging cam means to draw the closure on to the vessel, there are screw means adapted to act in conjunction with the closure or vessel respectively to rotate the closure relatively to the vessel to draw on and/or to draw off the closure to close and/or to open the vessel respectively. As shown, a spindle 3 is screwed into a projection 4 on the vessel or the closure and includes spaced shoulders 5, 6 having inclined abutment faces, and is accommodated in a channel-shaped projection 7 on the rim of the vessel. A valve 13 is operated to exhaust the vessel to atmosphere upon unscrewing the spindle to release the closure.
