Abstract

977,006. Temperature alarms. F. ROSTVIG. Sept. 11, 1963 [Sept. 15, 1962], No. 35774/63. Heading G4N. Adevice for indicating a temperature increase in a bearing comprises a whistle connected to a chamber such that upon actuation of a heat operable means air or other gas flows through the whistle, and a microphone for receiving the sound signals. The bearing to be monitored has inserted into it a cartridge comprising a chamber 5 having a whistle 7 at one end. Within the chamber is a valve 9 which is released by fusing of the wire 10 to allow compressed gas from the chamber 5 to pass through the whistle 7. In a second form, Fig. 3 (not shown) fusing of the wire releases a spring loaded piston which forces the gas through the whistle. Alternatively Fig. 4 (not shown) the chamber may contain a material which evolves gas at a predetermined temperature. The microphone may be tuned to receive a single frequency, or one of a number of frequencies and may be connected to operate a visual indicator, and to indicate which of a number of bearings has overheated.
