Abstract

An appts. for indicating when a filter, partic. an air filter for an automobile, has become clogged, comprises a hollow body contg. a chamber of variable vol. which communicates with a pipe connecting it to the enclosure being monitored. The variable vol. chamber is limited by a mobile wall carrying a permanent magnet. This wall can pass from a position of normal service in which the vol. of the chamber is a max. to a retracted position of clogging when the vol. is a min. A fixed seating is provided to define the retracted position. This seating contains pref. two metal pieces forming contact studs which are electrically insulated from one another and are connected to terminals for controlling a sonic or luminous warning. They become connected to one another by the magnet when the mobile wall is in the retracted position. The indicator uses only one magnet whereas existing indicators of its type use two. The attraction developed between the magnet and the seating accelerates usefully the final phase of the course of the mobile wall and prevents the relative instability which could occur at this stage.
