Abstract

977,000. Flexible heating cables. SPRINGFIELD WIRE & TINSEL CO. Jan. 2, 1963, No. 235/63. Heading H5H. Electrical resistance heating cable comprises a continuous flexible insulating core 8, a resistance wire 10 wound helically around core 8 and coterminous therewith and a length of conductive material 12 disposed longitudinally along the core and electrically interconnecting turns of resistance wire 10, length 12 being of sufficient extent to provide an unheated terminal. As shown the cable has an insulating cover 14. Lengths 12 (Fig. 3) comprise a steel core 13, a copper coating 15 and a nickel coating 17 to prevent oxidation of the copper, the length being flattened before fitting between core 8 and wire 10. The cable is made in long strips with lengths 12 at intervals so that it can be cut at the centres of lengths 12 to provide lengths of cable with terminals at both ends. Steel core 13 enables lengths 12 to be located electromagnetically along the long strips of cable. A length of cable with its outer cover 14 may be fitted inside a metal tube (Figs. 6, 7, not shown) and connections made to the terminals at both ends.
