Abstract

976,860. Engraving. J. MARTIN & SONS Ltd. Nov. 27, 1963 [Dec. 3, 1962], No. 45599/62. Heading B6J. To engrave a pattern on the resist on a printing cylinder an enlargement of the pattern is projected from below on to a translucent table 1 and engraving is effected by a tool mounted on a pantograph the stylus of which is moved over the image on the table. The enlarger comprises a ventilated lamp-housing 6, a pattern support 5, a bellows 7 and a projection lens 8. Adjustments for focusing and the degree of enlargement are provided. The lens assembly 9 includes a disc 11 carrying a plurality of different coloured filters which can be selectively brought into use by a Bowden cable mechanism. The image is diverted to the table by a 45 degrees mirror 10. Simultaneously with the engraving, the stylus may trace a copy on a transparent film mounted on the screen for future use in producing repeat cylinders.
