Abstract

1473066 Photocomposing apparatus H BERTHOLD AG 17 April 1975 15795/75 Heading B6W In a photocomposing apparatus wherein characters on a movable matrix 5 are projected on to a composing surface 14 by a projection lens 4. The optical system is arranged to permit characters from an auxiliary matrix on a film 11 to be projected by the lens 4 simultaneously with or instead of characters from the matrix 5. A first light source 2 illuminates the matrix 5 via a mirror 17. Pivotting of the mirror to the dotted position permits a lens 9 to project an image of a character on film 11 into the plane of matrix 5. A light source 7 illuminates the film. The lens 9 is adjustable to vary the size of the image at the position of matrix 5, and the lens 4 is adjustable to provide variable magnification. The light source 7 may provide the sole illumination in which case film 11 (which is movable between spools 21 and 22) must be removed when using matrix 5 alone.
