Abstract

976,541. Articulated shovel loader vehicles. MATBRO Ltd. April 3, 1963 [April 9, 1962], No. 13645/62. Addition to 838,606. Heading B7H. [Also in Division E1] In a four-wheel drive vehicle comprising in accordance with the patent Specification a front frame section rigidly supported on a driven axle 2 and connected about a vertical steering pivot 3, 3 to a rear frame section which is pivotally supported about a longitudinal horizontal axis on a driven axle 1 and carries an engine 8, a driving seat 14 is provided on the rear frame section and hydraulically actuated shovel loading equipment on the front frame section includes a shovel bucket 49 carried by a single tubular arm 40. The arm 40 is pivotable about a pin 42 on the front frame section by means of an hydraulic jack 44 and the bucket 49 is tiltable about a pivot 50 by a jack 60 acting through a lever 55 pivoted on plates 52 secured to the arm 40. The jack 60 is pivoted to the front frame section eccentrically of the pin 42 so as to form together with the lever 55 a compensating linkage which maintains the attitude of the bucket 49 when the arm 40 is raised. A double-acting steering jack reacting between the frame sections is supplied by a valve 37 actuated by a steering wheel 34 through a drop arm 36 and a link 33. The engine 8 is connected through a torque converter or a gear-box 9 controlled by a lever 15 beside the driver's seat 14, and a gear train or chain drive within a casing 10 to universally jointed transmission shafts 11, 24 braked by a disc brake 12 and driving differential gearing incorporated in each axle 1, 2. Pivotal movement of the axle 1 relative to the rear frame section is progressively restrained by rubber blocks 6.
