Abstract

1425604 Articulated vehicles; steering mechanisms E KELLER 9 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 22163/73 Heading B7H An articulated vehicle has front And rear chassis parts 1, 6 which are rotatable relative to an intermediate part 3 about spaced parallel pivot joints 24 by double-acting steering jacks 13, 14 hydraulically connected in series so that extension of one jack is accompanied by contraction of the other. The jacks 13, 14 are identical and each has a differential area piston, the working chambers of smaller cross-section being connected by a flexible hose 19, and the chambers of larger cross-section being connected through control lines 17, 18 to hydrostatic steering control mechanism. An extension member 5 is connected to the rear part 6 by a horizontal pivot joint 7. Stops 20 limit rotation of the front and rear parts 1, 6 relative to the intermediate part 3. Driven axles on the front and rear parts 1,6 are driven through a common gear-box on the intermediate part 3 from an engine on the front part 1, and a dumper skip may be mounted on the rear part 6.
