Abstract
975,928. Cetylmercaptophenyl compounds. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N.V. Jan. 31, 1961 [Feb. 12, 1960], No. 3602/61. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] N - ( 2<SP>1</SP>-Cetylmercaptophenyl ) - 1 - hydrox y -4- chloro-2-naphthamide is prepared by condensing o-cetylmercapto-aniline hydrochloride with I- hydroxy-4-chloro-2-naphthoic acid in the presence of triethylamine and o-phenylene chlorophosphite. N - (41 - Cetylmercaptophenyl)- 1 - hydroxy - 4 - chloro-2-naphthamide is similarly prepared. p-Cetylmercapto-aniline hydrochloride is prepared by adding potassium hydroxide solution to a solution containing a mixture of p-mercaptoacetanilide and cetyl bromide, and hydrolyzing the acetanilide formed with hydrogen chloride gas.
