975,788. Chain couplings. M. ARCHER. Feb. 8, 1962 [Feb. 8, 1961; Aug. 26, 1961], No. 4885/62. Heading B8A. A link for coupling the end of a chain or the like 7 to a member 8 such as a ring or hook consists of two U- shaped half links 1 (viewed edge-on in Fig. 4) whose limbs are so shaped as to provide a substantially S-shaped abutting surface 6 between the two halflinks, the link being completed by welding over this surface. The mating surfaces may be cut into to provide a mortice - and - tenon inter-engagement between projections 11 and corresponding cavities 9 (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) on each limb of each half-link. The S-shaped profile of the mating surfaces 6 may lie in the median plane of the link as in Fig. 9 (not shown) or extend transversely thereof as in Fig. 4.
