Abstract
1,228,120. Chain couplings. BECKERPRUNTE G.m.b.H. 9 Jan., 1970 [11 Jan., 1969], No. 1191/70. Heading F2Q. A connecting link for an oval or round link chain comprises two identical generally U- shaped halves interfitted together so that the toothed outer face of a limb 2 of each half interengages the toothed inner face of a limb 1 of the other half, a gap 5 between the two innerlimbs 2 receiving a latch member 6 or 17 to prevent relative movement between the halves, and the width A of one inner limb 2 plus the width B of the gap 5 slightly exceeding the thickness of the chain links to be joined. A rounded nose 12 on the end of each limb 1 is a tight machined fit in a recess 13 at the base of each limb 2. The nose may extend normal to the plane of the link, as shown, or parallel to said plane (Fig. 3, not shown). The angle α between the longitudinal axis of the link and the planes of the toothed faces is less than the friction angle of the engaged surfaces. The latch member 6 is a headless bolt engaging screwthreaded recesses 14 in the limbs 2 and retained by a locking wire 16. Alternatively a block 17 retained by a cotter pin 18 may be used.
