Abstract
975,637. Cement mixers. COLCRETE Ltd. Feb. 12, 1963 [March 2, 1962], No. 8098/62. Heading B1C. A mixer for producing "colloidal" cement grout or concrete comprises a hopper as at 1 and two or more mixing and pumping units as at 8, 8a drawing water and cement from the bottom of the hopper through a trap 5 and having separate discharge pipes 21, 21a which discharge tangentially into the upper region of the hopper causing the mixture to flow down in a vortical manner. As shown, the hopper 1 is used for mixing cement and water and can be discharged by means of pipes 20, 20a into the hopper 2 for the addition of sand. The hoppers are provided with spiral deflectors 29, 30 to deflect the mixture to the outlets. The bifurcated pump discharge pipes have flexible sections which may be closed by the application of pressure so that the mixture may be recirculated or discharged as desired. The rotors of the pumping and mixing units 8, 8a are discs with small clearance in their casings 1 while those of the units 9, 9a are bladed impellers 12. If a single hopper is used, cement and water are mixed first and sand added later ; the pump rotors may be discs as in 8, 8a or paddle wheels. Water is supplied through a meter 23. An embodiment which may be mounted on transportation tracks or wheels is described with reference to Figs. 2 to 4 (not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 694,117.
