Abstract

975,513. Heat exchangers. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. March 29, 1961 [April 1, 1960], No. 11583/61. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger for transmitting heat between two gas streams activating independent fluidized beds in heat exchange relation, comprise concentric cylinders 3 and 4 with perforated plates 9 and 10 respectively supporting the beds 6 and 7 and supplied with gas through pipes 16 and 17. The exchanger is surrounded by heat insulation 5 contained in a metal shell 15 and, below the plate level, the cylinder 3 and pipe 16 are lined with heat insulation 12. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the outer chamber is of toroidal configuration. The gases are a stream of hot, moist hydrogen coming from and a stream of cold, dry hydrogen supplied to plant for reducing iron oxide. The beds 6 and 7 comprise inert solids such as alumina, aluminium silicate, silico-aluminate, charnotte, fluorspar and powdered iron.
