Abstract
1471037 Furnace cooling system NIPPON KOKAN KK 13 Nov 1974 [19 Nov 1973] 49046/74 Heading F4B Evaporative cooling apparatus for a blast furnace is such that water hammering in cooling staves in the furnace is minimized. Cooling tubes 7 in a cooling stave 6 are supplied with water from a steam separator 1 via a downcomer 2 and distribution manifold 5. Steam from the stave passes to the steam separator 1 via a discharge manifold 4 and riser 3. The steam separator has a steam exhaust pipe 8, supplementary water supply pipe 10, pressure gauge 12 and temperature indicator 13. To enable prevention of water hammering in the apparatus (e.g. during the early period after starting operation of the furnace when the heat load on the staves is low or during changes in the operating conditions of the furnace) there are additionally provided (a) a steam inlet pipe 14 to the steam separator 1 and a control valve 15, (b) a pipe 16 in parallel with the tubes 7 and (c) a steam feed pipe 17 and control valve 20. The steam supplied at 15 ensures that the temperature of the water in the steam separator 1 and also in the tubes 7 is maintained near its boiling point. The steam supplied at 17 aids the circulation through the tubes 7.
