Abstract
975,507. Compressors. INGERSOLL-RAND CO. March 9, 1961 [March 22, 1960], No. 8736/61. Heading F1N. A horizontally mounted double acting reciprocating piston compressor having sets of inlet valves 22 Fig. 1 and exhaust valves 24 disposed adjacent opposite ends of the compressor cylinder 12 has its inlet and exhaust pipes 26, 28, connected to the underside of a cylindrical housing 18 surrounding the cylinder 12 and forming therewith a valve chamber 20 which is divided into separate intake and exhaust compartments 52, 54 by apertured transverse partitions 30, 32 and by non-apertured longitudinal partitions 46, 48 Figs. 2 and 3. In operation air from the inlet pipe 26 and chamber 20 traverses apertures 38 in the upper portion of transverse partition 30 thus gaining access to both sets of inlet valves 22 and air exhausted by the sets of exhaust valves 24 which are disposed in the lower portion of chamber 20 traverses apertures 44 to gain access to the compartment 54 and the exhaust pipe 28.
