[Also in Division B5] A sealing sleeve of polychlorotrifluoroethylene or polyamide such as nylon FM 10001 is mounted on a bolt, screw, rivet or nail so that when the latter is tightened in position the sleeve or at least one end of it is cold moulded into a washer, Figs. 15, 19, 20 and in the case of a threaded fastener the fastener is locked since some of the material is forced into the space 94, Fig. 15, between the threads of the nut and bolt or into the thread trough if there is no nut, Fig. 20. The sleeve may be a simple hollow cylinder, Fig. 1 (not shown), held when the fastener is tightened so that a length of sleeve projects above a member 108, Fig. 19, to be secured and is subsequently compressed to form a washer 114 under the fastener head 63. The member 108 may be spaced from a second member 110, resting on a support 100 to which the members are screwed or nailed as shown, so that a second washer 116 is formed between the members. For forming the flange, the sleeve 33 may have a ring of projections 35, Fig. 4, a thickened end flange, Fig. 5 (not shown), at least one re-entrant corrugation 45, Fig. 6, a rolled-back end 72, Fig. 13, or, near at one end, at least one annular corrugation 25, Fig. 14. When the nut is tightened in the last two arrangements, washers 88, 90 are moulded at each end of the sleeve as shown in Fig. 15. The sleeves may be formed by pressing, rolling or moulding and that shown in Fig. 6 is formed by compression of a simple sleeve (mounted on the mandrel of a male die) in a female die (see Division B5).
