Abstract

A composition used in making a hectographic transfer sheet (see Division G2) comprises mineral oil, lanloin, spirit black dye, ethylcellulose and toluol. Specifications 833,631, 867,507, 867,508 and U.S.A. Specification 2,663,656 are referred to.ALSO:In a heat-stable hectographic transfer sheet for use in spirit-duplicating processes and comprising a flexible foundation sheet having thereon a solidified coating comprising a cellulosic film-forming binder which is at least partially soluble in conventional spirit-duplicating fluids, a non-volatile component and a quantity of hectographic imaging material, the non-volatile component comprises a mixture of at least two oleaginous or pasty materials and is not a solvent for the binder. A suitable mixture is mineral oil and lanolin, other materials referred to are animal oils, butyl stearate, oleic acid, petrolatum and hydro-genated vegetable oils. The foundation sheet may be of paper, cellulose acetate or polyethylene terephthalate. The binder may be ethylcellulose, methylcellulose or carboxymethylcellulose. The coating may also include a filler. The coating may be applied as a solution in a volatile solvent, e.g. toluene, or as an organosol or plastisol. The hectographic coating may be overcoated with a frangible, tacky overcoating of beeswax or polybutene. The hectographic imaging material may be spirit black, a rhodamine dye, a safranine dye, malachite green or a colour-reactive substance such as gallic acid, tannic acid, rubeanic acid, haematoxylin or sodium thiocyanate. These transfer sheets may be used to form hectographic masters by xerographic or thermographic processes. For the latter process, the materials used must be transparent to infrared radiation. Specifications 833,631, 867,507, 867,508 and U.S.A. Specification 2,663,656 are referred to.
